Colour of Maroc

by Rob & Sophia Palmer

My French-Moroccan wife Sophia and I had always talked (and dreamt) of doing a food and travel book of our own one day. After our wedding in Marrakech, surrounded by our Moroccan family and Australian friends, we realised there and then what the subject of our book would be. A year later we were back in the dusty desserts beyond the Atlas mountains beginning our journey and bringing our story to life and using food as our gateway into the heart and lives of Morocco.

Colour of Maroc is a collection of delicious Moroccan recipes, both traditional and contemporary, interwoven with stories and anecdotes inspired by people, food and travel experiences as seen through my eyes and Sophia,  my French/Moroccan wife.

While I wrote and photographed the book, Sophia produced it, working on the ground as our fixer and then later on translating all the recipes as well as bringing together the design and editorial team. With a finished product we pitched it to Murdoch Books who took it on for their 2013 Christmas book list.

I’ve got to say that Colour of Maroc is a project that we’re immensely proud of, it encapsulates our love of Morocco and each other. Each time we pick it up we almost can’t believe that we managed to do it!
