The Weekend Australian

Jeffrey Smart is one of Australia’s best known artists with his almost iconic and unique depictions of urban landscapes. I was stoked when The Weekend Australian Magazine asked me if I’d like to travel to Arezzo, Italy to photograph a story about Jeffrey. I was very familiar with his work as I’d studied it at school and had been heavily influenced by his style.

I spent two days with Jeffrey at his home and studio. Sadly, his partner Hermes said that the image I captured for the cover was the very last time Jeffrey ever put his brush to canvas. He was too frail to paint  after this shoot and passed away a little over a year later.
