Industry SOS: The Covid-19 Time Capsule
Golden Century
This time last year, Eric Wong (right) and his son Billy were celebrating 30 years running one of Sydney’s most popular Cantonese restaurants, Golden Century, which had become as famous for its pipis in XO sauce as its late night liquor licence. But last month the restaurant was empty, with the father and son contemplating their future over a bowl of noodles. This image is part of a new portrait series, Industry SOS, which documents an industry in crisis. I’ve teamed with writer Tristan Lutze to capture the stories of the city’s most powerful chefs, including Colin Fassnidge, Josh Nyland and Neil Perry, as they grapple with a new world order. We’re creating what we hope will become a bit of a time capsule once restaurants are able to trade fully again and we all try to find our new post-COVID ‘normal’.
